Where Does My Help Come From?
Where do you go first when you need help?
I often have to pause and reflect on this whenever I’m faced with an unfortunate circumstance or I’m met with adversity. The truth is, sometimes I want to rely on my own strength, the wisdom I have or the way I can wipe my own tears. But I’m quickly reminded that my strength is in Jesus. Even when what I’m facing seems so overwhelming, God is bigger.
Did you know that your Heavenly Father longs to be the first one you go to in your time of need? In the story of Mary and Martha, Jesus tells Martha, “but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42
I want to be like Mary. I sometimes find myself worrying about things out of my control or I find myself distracted by my busy schedule. Mary prioritized her love of Jesus over everything. This way of living brings so much peace and this story serves as a great reminder to prioritize what truly matters. Checking off my to-do list brings a sense of accomplishment but ultimate fulfillment is found in Jesus.
So, the next time you are in need of help, remember that Jesus loves you and will help you in your situation despite the depth of your despair or the severity of your sin. “Cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
Wherever you are today. Whatever you are facing. I know how it feels to be at the bottom of the dark pit, having lost so much…
Emmanuel, God with us. He stepped out of heaven into human flesh to suffer with us, to die and win victory for us that we could not do on our own. He’s here with us today saying, “You don’t have to be alone in this.”
My husband, Joshua, and I have witnessed the beauty that comes from surrendering everything to God and it is God’s unending grace that inspired us to become worship leaders.
