Start Your Day in the Presence of Jesus
Being intentional about spending time each day with Jesus can be difficult, and the absolute hardest part is sticking to a daily routine long enough to become consistent.
I’ve been there. As a busy mom, wife and teacher, I found myself struggling to find the time to sit quietly with Jesus each day until I finally figured out a daily routine, which is what I’m sharing with you here!
In this blog post, I’m sharing the routine I follow every morning. I’ll be covering:
• Daily routine details
• Materials
• How to be consistent each day
So if you’re looking for a way to be more intentional with being in the presence of Jesus, diving deeper in the Bible and growing in your faith, then you’re in the right place! All of that is about to change for good!
How I went from not being intentional with being in the presence of Jesus to never starting a day without Him
I was raised Catholic and although I grew up knowing about God, I realized I didn’t come to truly know Him until a few years ago. I had hit rock bottom and experienced the darkest time in my life after I spent many years walking on a path not aligned with God’s will. I was overwhelmed with grief and shame when I had encountered Jesus in 2021. I fell to my knees and repented for my sin and I was met with His loving arms and grace. Shortly after, I was baptized and Jesus has completely transformed my life ever since!
I knew I wanted to figure out a way to spend time with Him each day to praise Him for all He has done and to help me continue to grow deeper spiritually. As a busy mom, wife and teacher, I struggled to find enough time in the day let alone time to be intentionally in the presence of Jesus.
Until one day, I realized I could start with baby steps. So I started with waking up before my husband and kids and spending time in prayer. After a week, I decided to invest in a prayer journal. The journal gave me a space to write out my prayers, practice gratitude and keep track of answered prayers. Before I knew it, after just a few months that seemed to fly by, I had a yearning in my heart to study the Bible. I chose a plan on the You Version app and it gave me a chapter to read each day. I finally had a successful daily routine that allowed me to start my day in the presence of Jesus! My life has completely changed for the better.
So here’s exactly what I learned, and how to implement it for yourself. This is exactly how to stick to a daily routine plan, how to utilize a prayer journal, and how to grow deeper in your faith.
Daily Routine Details
The key to a successful daily routine is to find uninterrupted time during your day. For me, this time is early in the morning before my children are awake. I wake up at 5:15am each morning and exercise for 30 minutes. Then, I follow a simple 10-10-10 routine to have intentional quiet time with Jesus.
10 minutes of Prayer-
Around 5:45am, I go to my dining room table with a cup of coffee and pray. This is my intentional quiet prayer time with Jesus. I start with praising Jesus for His faithfulness, then I pray specific prayers for provision, protection and guidance. Finally, I sit in silence with Jesus and listen for His voice. This allows me to fully savor His presence. I have been blessed by this time because there are no distractions and He can hear Him speak wisdom to me directly.
10 minutes of Bible Study-
Next, around 6:00am, I read a chapter from my Bible. I found a beautiful ESV bible which I highly recommend because it has room to write and/or draw in the margins. Here is a link to the bible here.
This year, I am using Foundations by Robby & Kandi Gallaty to read through the New Testament in a year. If you want to start a plan to study the Bible this year, you can try the Foundations book. Click here! I especially enjoy using the HEAR method that they explain in detail in the book. This method of studying the bible allows you to truly read and respond with purpose. This intentional time with studying the bible offers wisdom that can be carried out into your day. I have grown deeper in my faith and have learned how to apply what I study in the bible into my daily life.
10 minutes of writing in a Prayer Journal-
Lastly, around 6:15am, I take out my prayer journal. I found a prayer journal that I love! I have used this prayer journal for the past three years. Shannon Roberts has created this beautiful Prayer Journal with lovely illustrations, devotionals and an amazing layout. I respond to the weekly devotional every Monday. Each day, I write down 3 things I am thankful for in the “Thank You Lord” section. This is how I practice gratitude each day. I have noticed how this has impacted my mood in such a positive way. Then, I utilize the sections on the weekly layout to write specific prayers and things in my heart. If you are interested in using the same journal that I use, click here! One of my favorite sections in this journal is the “Answered Prayers” log in the back. You can write down specific prayers throughout the year and record when God answers them. This serves as an important reminder of how God hears us and answers or prayers in His timing.
This daily routine of intentional time with Jesus usually lasts around 30-45 minutes.
-10 minutes of Prayer
-10 minutes of Bible Study
-10 minutes of writing and reflection in a Prayer Journal
Materials
-Flair pens (I use a different color each day in my journal.)
How to be consistent each day
I think it is so important to remember to start slowly. Pick one item (prayer, Bible, journaling) that you want to start with. Continue practicing that part of the routine each day and add on as you go.
My quiet time with Jesus has become a non-negotiable for me. I also choose to be intentional about not going on my phone until after my time with Jesus. This has allowed me to eliminate potential distractions.
Once I dove deeper into the Word, I implemented what I have learned into my daily life and I experienced an amazing transformation. The prayer journal is a wonderful way to record all that God has done in your life. I feel more at peace and I have noticed how God reaches us through our time with Him and whenever we open up the bible; it is the living Word. God has so much to say to you, too! I can’t wait for you to experience the life-changing transformation that happens when you set aside intentional time with Jesus each day. Get ready for God to move intentionally in your life!
